Monthly Look Ahead: September 2021

Well, this summer has flown by. But I’m not too sad about it because, as you’ll see from the first three bullets I have here, September is a very musical month, and it should not be news to you readers that I do love me some musicals. There’s actually a lot of interesting media out this month that I’m looking forward to. Usually I try to have at least one not-media thing on this list, but not this time!

  • A recording of the musical Come From Away, starring most if not all of the original cast, is out on AppleTV on the 10th. I love this show so much, and I highly recommend getting a box of tissues and watching it. It’s so sweet and so well done in a simple way.
  • The Dear Evan Hansen movie is coming out on the 24th. It’s kind of weird that Ben Platt is still playing a teenager, and I’ll be interested to see how this show translates to a movie given that the music is kind of deep and not as dance-y as most, but I’m still excited. I do really like this show.
  • After getting delayed several times because of the pandemic, the movie of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is finally coming out via Amazon. I only got into this show last fall, but the music is very good, and it’s a fun show, so I’m looking forward to it! (Also on Amazon this month but it doesn’t warrant its own bullet is a Cinderella musical. No one asked for another live action Cinderella, and I can’t say I’m a Camilla Cabello fan, but it is a musical, so I likely will watch it eventually).
  • Though I know very little about the character, Marvel’s Shang-Chi is out on the 4th, and I am excited to see it because a) there’s a dragon(!), b) it’s starring a Canadian, and c) it’s Marvel, and Marvel movies rarely disappoint.

  • On the small screen, The Morning Show is back for a second season. As heavy as the first season was, it was very entertaining for my mother and I, so we’re looking forward to more. Other small screen returns this month include A Million Little Things and Doom Patrol.
  • I can’t even believe it’s time for fall TV already! Maybe because Arrowverse shows aired all summer it feels like there wasn’t a break (as if 2020 wasn’t a break in itself), but I’m looking at the calendar and yes, new shows will be starting! There are only a few I have my eye on, though, including The Big Leap on the 20th, and maybe a few NBC shows that I’ve yet to see trailers for.
  • The Emmys as well as a weird, delayed, and chopped version of The Tonys are this month.

Aaand that’s it (or, that’s all I can remember to include. It is 1am at the time of writing). It’s wild that this was supposed to be the month where I get my second vaccine, but Canada expedited things so I’ve been in the clear for a while now! I’ve been to a party!

What’s revving your engines this September?

Monthly Look Ahead: September 2020

Aaaand here we are in September. I know some people love fall and the cooler weather but I am not one of those people. Either way, here are some small things to look forward to in my September.

monthly look ahead logo

  • Last month DC comics had a 24 hour fan event called the DC FanDome in place of going to SDCC. Panels were livestreamed online for free and it was very well done. I watch a lot of DC TV shows, and unfortunately for me, most of the TV panels were moved to a separate day, Sept 12th. So now I have that to look forward to, even though I doubt there’ll be a whole lot of new info to be shared because filming hasn’t started for the shows.
  • Season 2 of The Boys starts on the 4th. It’s not a show I loved but it’s interesting enough and filmed in Toronto so yay for that.
    The Boys.
  • The Emmys are on the 20th. Luckily all the shows in play were finished before Corona, so aside from the event being done online, there should be no changes to winners or anything like that.

Aaaand that’s it.

Monthly Look Ahead: September 2019

Well, here we are in September. The last third of the year is beginning, which is wild because I am sure that 2019 started a few weeks ago. Anyway, despite not yet finding a job, I actually had a pretty decent August. So here’s hoping September keeps up the same vibes, even though the warm weather will slowly be going away.

  • The best thing about September is Fall TV starting back up. Returning shows this month for me are: This Is Us, Modern Family, God Friended Me, A Million Little Things, The Good Place, Superstore, and Titans. I’m also going to see what Carol’s Second Act and The Politician are like.
  • The Emmys are on the 22nd, and I’ve actually seen a few of the nominated shows this year.
  • I’m going to try making pickles! I love dill pickles, and making my own doesn’t seem too hard, so I’m going to give it a shot. My mother thinks I need a new hobby, so I hope she’s pleased. There’s a chance I may make a blog post about the process or the results (in a few months) so stay posted.

  • The sequel to the book Carry On is out on the 24th called Wayward Son, and I liked Carry On once I was able to mentally get past the Harry Potter-ness of it all, so I’m looking forward to reading this new book.

So that’s my September! If you’ve got fun things happening in your life, make a Monthly Look Ahead post of your own or leave a comment. And keep crossing your fingers for me in the job realm; I’ve hit the 100 applications mark, so something should work out soon, right? Right?

That’s all for now!

Monthly Look Ahead: September 2018

My August MLA wasn’t that thrilling, but the month ended up being not too bad. September is more exciting, though. For the first time since I was four years old, I’m not starting a new school year this month. It’s weird. Adult life is weird. Anyway, here’s what I’ve got to look forward to.

  • Fall TV! Of course the biggest thing I’m hyped for this month is the return of TV. Not all my shows are back this month, but the ones that are are: This Is UsModern Family, and The Good Place. I can’t wait to come home from work to evenings with a purpose.
  • And there are some new shows starting too: ManifestSingle ParentsA Million Little Things, and God Friended Me. I’m on the fence about all of these, but I’m hopeful.
  • Season two of Iron Fist comes out on the 10th. I didn’t hate season one, but I also didn’t love it. I enjoy Marvel but the past three seasons of shows they’ve given us on Netflix have been slow, boring, and long, so I don’t have the highest hopes for season two of Iron Fist. But I’m excited to see Joy and Ward again, as well as Misty and Coleen. And Danny wasn’t awful when he showed up in season two of Luke Cage, so if he can keep that up, it should be alright.

  • The Emmys are on September 17th. I’ve noticed that the shows that get noms are usually the big, wildly popular and big-budget shows on bigger networks like HBO or Netflix, and I don’t watch a lot of those, but I’ll still tune into this award show.
  • My parents are planning at least one trip downtown to see my brother play baseball, and while I don’t care for that at all, I think I may take advantage of the ride and try to get cheap matinée theater tickets downtown. Or if that doesn’t work out, I’ll plan to hang out with a downtown friend or two. Either way, should be good.

And that’s my September, from what I can tell. I write these posts the night before so I miss stuff, surely. That’s on me. I didn’t mean to leave it to the last minute, but I played myself.

So what’s your September looking like? Are you going back to school? Is Fall TV the highlight of your days too? Let me know, and feel free to make your own MLA post if you want!

Monthly Look Ahead: September 2017

Who allowed it to be September, because I sure didn’t? I am appalled that I am a few days away from being back at school. Where has my summer gone? I went swimming once. ONCE, you guys. But I guess if I have to accept this new month into my life, I should embrace all the goodness that comes with it. Here’s what’s looking good this September.

monthly look ahead logo

  • A fresh new schedule. Going back to school for the last time meaning I’m back in classes, back on my own, back to business. I do enjoy the first few weeks of school.
  • Back to Quidditch. I was very inactive this past summer, so I am looking forward to hitting the pitch again and getting even a little exercise, and especially now when it’s still kind of warm outside.
  • I’m getting Invisaligne braces put in. I don’t know how exciting this is, as it’s a lot more work on my part, but I’m hoping that it’ll fix up my teeth’s crowding and minimize the damage I apparently do to myself in my sleep. Have any of you had them?
  • This isn’t confirmed yet, but I am planning on volunteering at my local Wordcamp again. Last year I had a good time, so I figured, why not do it again?
  • The sequel to Kingsman called Kingsman: The Golden Circle is out on the 22nd. The first movie was great, so I think I’ll make a trip out to the movies to see this new one.

  • Marvel’s newest cinematic endeavour, The Inhumans, is out this month. It’s a TV show, but the first two episodes are being shown in IMAX theaters before the rest of the show airs on TV on the 29th. I gotta say, this is the least excited I’ve been for a Marvel project in a while, so I may not be first in line to see this in theaters, but I will give the TV show a chance at the very least.
  • As for other brand new TV shows, there’s nothing too exciting coming this fall. I’m considering watching The Mayor and Ghosted but I am not overcome with anticipation, so we’ll see.
  • I’m more excited for returning TV shows. Returning to me in September are: The Good Place, Superstore, Modern Family, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, This Is Us, and Mr. D.
  • Shania Twain’s new album is out at the end of the month. I loved the first single and I’m just so happy she’s back making music.

So that’s how my September is looking. I’m guessing a lot of you are going back to school too. Are you excited? Or are you more excited for fall TV, like I am? Make your own MLA post and share the goodness! I’d love to read and I’d love to see more people spreading the positivity by participating in this blogging feature.
