Monthly Look Ahead: January 2022

Wow, here we are with 2022 upon us! There’s a joke going around that it’s like “2020 too” but I don’t think it can be as bad as 2020. All things considered, 2021 was a good year for me, and I am entering 2022 with optimism.

The new year is a perfect time to jump into doing Monthly Look Aheads on your own blog! You get 12 fairly easy posts a year! And I’ve even made a new graphic, so feel free to use it if you want!

• This Is Us returns for its last season, and I am bracing myself for pain as this show has never shied away from emotional gut punches. My old roommate and I watch this together and I’m excited to keep up that tradition with her. I have faith that it’ll be a satisfying last season.
• There few shows out this month I have my eye on but am not fully committed to: Peacemaker (The Suidice Squad spinoff show), Naomi (bc stupid CW superhero shows have me in a chokehold), American Auto (it’s made by the creator of Superstore, and I do miss that show), Abbott Elementary (school comedies are rare), and How I Met Your Father (will it live up to the legacy of HIMYM?)
• I don’t really like Jerod Leto, but if Morbius is part of the MCU (since that may be MCU Vulture in the trailers), I’ll probably see it. I just hope it’s not too creepy and gross.
  

There were supposed to be a few other things on this list like seeing friends and a curling bonspiel, but with COVID getting bad again, it’s very unlikely they’ll happen. My whole family has had our booster shots, but case numbers here in Ontario are pretty gross.

That being said, I hope your 2022 starts off a good foot and I hope this year is everything you want it to be and more.

Monthly Look Ahead: January 2021

Happy new year! I’d like to believe that all the drama and tragedy from 2020 is now left behind, but that’s not how the world works. Still, a new year can be seen as a fresh start if you want it to. Either way, it’s important to look forward to things, even little things, in life, and as much as sometimes these Monthly Look Aheads are boring or empty, I like being forced to think about the good things that are to come (I also like 12 guaranteed blog posts every year!). I asked on Twitter if I should continue with them, and people said yes, so here we are.

So, this January, here’s what I’m excited for, and you are more than welcome to make your own MLA post, or share your goodness in the comments!

• WandaVision, the first MCU TV show going directly to Disney+ is finally coming out after delays. It’ll be out on Jan 15th, and I’m excited. I think Wanda and Vision are two interesting but relatively unexplored characters, so it’ll be fun to have them as the stars in a show that looks different from any other MCU show.
• Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist returns for season 2 on Jan 5th! My parents and I enjoyed this show and I’m looking forward to it coming back, even if I didn’t miss it that much over the summer.
• Batwoman (with a new Batwoman) begins its second season on the 17th. I didn’t love the first season (though I didn’t hate it), but I’m interested to see how they work in a new lead character and what the fan response is.
• I start my new job! I signed the papers in mid-December, but it made sense to start me in the fresh new year. I’m very excited.

Monthly Look Ahead: January 2020

Well, welcome to another January! It’s a new year! Though it’s cool to start this new month and decade, I will say that January doesn’t seem to be all that thrilling. But maybe that’s good. Ease into the new year, ya know?

• A theater downtown is doing a production of Legally Blonde, which is one of my favourite musicals. It’s also a show I’ve been begging my friend to watch, so I’m making her come with me to see it. I’m very excited. I don’t have a subscription musical to see this month, so this will definitely fill the void.
• New month, new TV. I’m excited to try Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, Spinning Out, and maaaaybe the Party Of Five reboot depending on reviews. And returning to my screen from extended hiatuses is Legends Of Tomorrow, The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina, Schitt’s Creek, and Manifest.
  
• A friend is having a belated birthday party, so I’ll be there.
• My neighbours are going to Australia to help move their son into his new school, and I’ve requested that they bring me back some Australian candy, so hopefully they find some and I can try some good nice foreign sweets later this month.

Monthly Look Ahead: January 2019

Another year, another January! I won’t ramble on about resolutions (because I have a post on that coming next week), but I do like how this month feels like it has potential to be great. So hopefully the things I’m about to list below aid in making this month a great one…

• This month I am participating in two curling bonspiels. I’m a fairly competitive person, so I think it’ll be fun to be in a competitive environment rather than just the casual weekly games.
• Almost all my TV shows are back this month after the midseason finales.  Some are back the first week of January, so I’m glad I only have to do minimal waiting.
• Also Brooklyn Nine-Nine starts this month. It’s not my favourite show but it’s a good one and I’m interested to see how NBC does it differently than Fox.
• The Golden Globes are on the 6th. I curl that night, so I might have to record it to watch it later, but the hosts are Andy Sandberg and Sandra Oh, and I think they’ll do well.
• Fox’s live production of Rent is to air on the 27th. Again, curling will conflict, but I’m very excited for this because Rent is a good musical. I do wonder how or if Fox will change the show to make it more primetime TV-friendly, but there’s nothing I can do but wait and see.
• Season two of The Punisher is supposed to be out this month on Netflix. There’s been no set release date, which is concerning, so we’ll have to see. I’m obviously excited for this show to be back because season one was pretty good, but we just know it’s probably doomed to the same fate as its other Marvel Netflix siblings,  so I feel like I won’t be able to appreciate the show properly.

Monthly Look Ahead: January 2018

2018! We’ve made it to 2018! I hope this new year is a good one for all of us! And let’s start the new year off by looking ahead to this month and the good things to come! If you’re looking to start doing MLAs on your blog too, now is a great time to jump in! Here’s what’s happening in my January.

• Midseason premieres of all my shows
• And the season premiere of Black Lightning. This show seems different from the current DC shows because the hero is older and retired, so we’ll see how it goes!
• The Quidditch team is having a Yule Ball again in which we dress up and eat food. Good times basically guaranteed.
• The start of my last ever school semester! I’m almost freeeee!
• The Golden Globes on the 7th
• Novel editing. I didn’t do any in December (oops? In my defense I was waiting for more beta feedback…) so now I gotta do it in January before the bookmaking class I’m in gets too deep. I still don’t love editing but I have a few rewrite ideas I’m kind of excited about.

Okay, so not much going on, but that’s okay. It’s a new year of growth and change, and I am ready! I’m not really one for new year’s resolutions, but this year I’m going to (hopefully) continue working on my positivity. What are your resolutions and what do you have going on this month?
