Monthly Look Ahead: April 2021

Well here we are in April. Spring has sprung and it’s nice to not feel the need to put on many sweaters every day, ya know? I mean, don’t get me wrong, I still wear one sweater every day, but it’s usually enough.

Anyway, it’s not a busy month, but, like, what else is new. So here’s the very small list of things I’m looking forward to:

monthly look ahead logo

  • On April 1st, the show Manifest begins its third season. I really enjoy this show, so I hope this new season is just as exciting as it was last year.
  • The Men’s Curling Worlds start this month and then at the end of the month is the start of Women’s Worlds. I’ve very much enjoyed watching the Scotties, Brier, and Mixed Doubles this year, and always want to see more good Canadian curling. If you get TSN and are looking to watch good curling taking place in a nice Calgary bubble, tune in!
The Canadian Men's Curling Team for 2021.
  • Darren Criss has new music of some sort coming out. He’s calling it “a series of character-driven singles” out on the 9th, and I don’t really know what that means, but I’m excited to find out.

Aaaand that’s it. I guess I should be grateful that I actually have a routine this April considering last April I had literally nothing to do. I was applying to like one job a week since Corona slowed down posting so much, and I was playing Zelda games to fill my days.

What’s your April looking like?

P.S. I was on a call with friends when I wrote the majority of this post, so I said to them, “hey y’all, what am I looking forward to this month? I’mma crowdsource this blog post,” and here were their replies:

  • “Doing hard drugs.” I feel like I should start with light drugs first, but thanks for the suggestion.
  • “It’s my parents’ anniversary.” Not my parents, my friend’s parents. Who I’ve never met.
  • “I dunno, isn’t there some curling you can watch?” Yeah, it’s already on the list.

Anyway, lesson learned. Blogging is a solo task.

Monthly Look Ahead: April 2020

Well. March was some kind of month, eh? And it seems April will also be a weird one as well. I know I said I wouldn’t talk about coronavirus too much more on this blog, but for a Monthly Look Ahead, I can’t avoid it. Being stuck inside all day and night means there’s very little to look excitedly ahead to, and there’s always a risk that the things we do still have could get cancelled or postponed. But this is the cross we bear as we all work together to deal with this pandemic.

  • A week ago I took out our old Nintendo Wii that I haven’t touched in probably a decade. I have a handful of games I never beat, one of which is Zelda: Twilight Princess, and I’ve been having a lot of fun playing it again. I think I’m over halfway through, so I plan to beat that this month. I’m a huge Zelda fan so I always regretted never finishing that one. I also never beat Wind Waker for the Gamecube, so I will probably play that one afterward.

  • A new season of Nailed It is out on Netflix on April 1st. It’s by no means a favourite show of mine, but it’s easy to watch and entertaining.
  • Two shows are airing their series finales this month: Modern Family and Schitt’s Creek. Both had really great runs and both will have a farewell documentary thing air before their final episodes. So, needless to say, I will be crying.

There’s no better time than now to do your own Monthly Look Ahead, because it’s now that we need reminding that there are still good things happening in our world to look forward to, even if it’s something small like beating a 15 year old video game. What’s getting you out of bed this month?

I hope everyone is staying safe at home.

We're All In This Together.

That’s all for now.

Monthly Look Ahead: April 2019

April showers bring May flowers, right? I don’t even care if April has showers because I am very much done with the cold and snow, so bring it on, April. And, since this is a Monthly Look Ahead, the following things can also be brought on this month.

monthly look ahead logo

  • If you couldn’t guess that Avengers: Endgame would be my #1, you’re a fool. This movie is going to end me, and I am ready. This is it. Every trailer, every poster, every cryptic tweet…they’ve all been preparing my soul for what will surely be an epic, devastating, and amazing film. RIP me (and probably several characters) on the 26th.
  • Legends Of Tomorrow is finally back after taking a long hiatus. This show, though maybe a bit too zany these days, is still fun and enjoyable.
  • The author of The Inheritance Cycle wrote another book of stories in that world, and though it came out in late December, I’ve only just finished my reread of The Inheritance Cycle (I’m a slow reader now), so this month I shall finally get to read this book called The Fork, The Witch, And The Worm that I’ve essentially been waiting for since early high school. I am very excited.
The fork the witch and the worm.
  • Season two of Cloak And Dagger airs on the 4th, and though it’s not my favourite Marvel show, season one wasn’t awful, so I’ll keep watching. Plus, slowly my list of shows per week is going down as seasons end, so it’s not like I have better things to watch.
  • Curling is ending, and though I am not looking forward to that, I am looking forward to the closing parties. It just so happens that the events for the two leagues I’m in are on the same weekend, so I’ll be at the club a lot those two days.

So that’s my April. Not too busy, but at least I’m not in exam mode and packing to move back home mode like my past four Aprils. This is better.

What’s getting your pumped for April?

Monthly Look Ahead: April 2018

Welcome to the fourth month of the year. I can’t believe we’re here already. And I can’t believe I survived March. It actually wasn’t as bad as I thought it’d be. I was big time stressed for about three days and then everything slowed down slightly, and I got a handle on it all. So now I am ready to move into April and take on all that’s coming. Especially these following fun parts:

  • NBC’s newest live musical, Jesus Christ Superstar Live! is airing on the 1st (since it’s Easter and all). John Legend and Sara Bareilles are starring in it. Admittedly, I’ve never seen this musical, but that just makes me more excited. I am ready to be wowed, and NBC’s musicals are usually solid.
  • Finishing school! Can you believe I’ll be done? Four years of essays and group projects and lectures, all coming to an end. I have only one exam and as soon as I’m done that, I’ll be done it all. Forever.
  • Avengers Infinity War! This highly anticipated movie got pushed up a few weeks to April 27th, and I am so excited. So many awesome characters are coming together in this, so it’s sure to be stellar. This is the movie that the MCU has been building up to for a while now.

  • The Quidditch team is celebrating the end of the school year with a laser tag session, and I am beyond ready. I love laser tag, and I think the team will be a great bunch of people to play it with. Plus, a girl on the team works there, so we get a discount. Cheap fun is often the best fun. This will be the last chance to hang with my Quidditch pals, so I’ll cherish it.
  • After years of work, I’m finally able to sell my first novel! I already got a proof copy, made some last fixes, and ordered a first batch, so this month I will definitely be able to sell it to friends and family and any interested readers. Keep an eye out for a big reveal blog post very soon with all the info!

And that’s my April! What’s going on for you this month? I’d love to know!

That’s all for now!

Monthly Look Ahead: April 2017

Well would ya look at that (you know what video I’m referencing). I survived March. Though my classes are done, I still have two assignments due before I can say I am officially done third year (ahhhhhh!).

April means spring and spring means warm weather and freedom, and I need all of that. I also need these next fun things that I’m about to list for this month’s Look Ahead. It’s not a super thrilling month but the fact that I’m not up to my eyeballs in schoolwork is enough for me. Here’s what I’ve got going on this month, and, as always, you’re welcome to share what your April plans are.

monthly look ahead

  • Prison Break season 5 starting on April 4th. I never saw this show when it was originally on, but over Christmas my brother started watching it and I happened to be in the room and boom, I got hooked. When we went back to school, he stopped watching (around the middle of season two) but ya girl just had to binge it all, so I’ve been ready for this new season for a few months now. Also, the Legends Of Tomorrow finale is moved to 8pm that night so I won’t have an overlap, and then Agents Of SHIELD is on at 10 after its month-long hiatus so basically April 4th looks like it’s gonna be great for me.
  • There’s a fancy gala for students in my program. I got a ticket but none of my four friends wanted to/could go so I don’t know how much fun my awkward, anti-social self will have. My roommate is going but she has her own friends and I don’t want to be that tagalong. But I’ll be dressed up and there’s an open bar and I don’t get out too much so I am looking forward to the event either way.
  • Lea Michele has a new album coming out on the 28th. She has such an amazing voice and I loved her first album Louder that came out a few years ago, so I have high hopes for Places.

  • In case you missed it, I’m co-running an online movie swap which you can learn about here and the form closes on April 9th (it’s not too late to join!) so I’m super excited to send people movies and hopefully read reaction posts from bloggers.
  • Easter. I don’t think we have plans, but I’m expecting a little bit of chocolate that day, so yeah, I’m looking forward to that.
  • Hopefully getting a summer job. I think I put this on April’s Look Ahead last year too and didn’t end up finding work until June, so pray extra hard for me this year because now that my father is retired, he’ll be home all day, just nagging at me to apply for more and ya girl can’t deal.

What are your April plans? Any big things going on? Any exciting moments coming up? Tell me so I can be excited with you!
