The Birthday Tag

My birthday isn’t actually today, it’s on the 16th, but I’m due for a post so y’all get this early. And I know that for most Tag posts, it’s intended that you’re tagged to do it, but I figured that’s a little unrealistic for this specific one. I also want to note that I didn’t write this post as a way to brag about my birthday or seem like I’m fishing for birthday well-wishes. I simply saw this Tag on Me And My Mundane Life last week and liked the questions and wanted to look them up for myself, and then I figured I’d share all my June 16th facts with you. Because I can. So here we go:

Name celebrities with the same birthday
I seriously didn’t know any that shared the day, so I had to look it up. There are only three people I recognized: Tupac, KJ Apa, and Jon Cho.

Photoshop at its best, eh?

Is your birthday a national holiday?
I knew my birthday is National Fudge Day, which is pretty neat. It’s also Fresh Veggies Day and World Sea Turtles day, apparently. I’m pleased.

Who died on your birthday?
No one exciting. I scrolled through a whole list and didn’t recognize a single name.

What’s your star sign?

What’s your Chinese Zodiac sign?
I’m the year of the Rat but let the record show that I am forever bitter I’m not year of the Dragon.

On which weekday were you born?
I was born on a Sunday and I know that because it was Father’s Day. As the oldest child, my birth was double special for my dad. And yet…I still have to get him a gift every year. No, sir, I am the gift.

What song was on number 1 in the charts when you were born?
This was the number one song…I’ve never heard of it but I listened to it once and….that’s enough.

What was the weather when you were born?
I couldn’t find any information online so I asked my mother and she said, and I quote, “it was nice. On the cooler side, but pleasant. Like, not crazy hot.”

Anything important ever happen on your birthday?
Again, nothing too thrilling, but in 1903, the Pepsi Cola company formed, and in 1784, Holland forbid the wearing of orange clothes… Please, if anyone reading this knows more about that, tell me because I am very intrigued.

And there we go. A fun little post about June 16th. If you’ve got a birthday coming up, consider yourself tagged to do this too. Or even if you don’t have a birthday anytime soon but want to do it anyway, go for it! This blog is an extension of my life so I guess it makes sense to celebrate my 21st birthday here too.

The ‘Beautiful Is’ Tag

Tag, I’m it! It’s been a while since I’ve been tagged in anything, so I was extra pleased when Regina5000 from Diversion3000 tagged me for The Beautiful Is tag, a tag in which I have to be creative (it’s not a problem, it’s a challenge!) to answer the questions. So read on to learn about what I think such a complex concept like beauty is all about!

Image result for beautiful text

The rules:

1. Link back to the original post in your introduction so nominees can get a brief context of the tag. In particular the opening of this post.

2. Thank your nominee.

3. Answer the questions

4. Tag anyone and let them know – no limit on numbers

5. Tag it as beautifulistag so the creator can read them all!

6. Comment I am beautiful at the end of your post

1. What is your definition of beautiful?
Beautiful is when something or someone makes you stop and stare in awe, and for a brief second while you do so, you’re at peace.

2. What do you find beauty in (abstract or concrete ideas)?
I can find beauty in a lot of things. People, places, things. Nouns in general, y’know? Personally, though, I think concrete/physical things are more beautiful than abstract. In an art sense, I have no interest in abstract, minimalist art, but show me a realistic painting of a mountain or something, and I’d like that a lot more.

3. When you think of beautiful, what are the first four things or words that come to mind?
Sunsets, oceans, people, love.

4. What’s a song, quote, or lyric that you think sums up beauty perfectly?
Yikes, this was hard for me. Nothing came to mind quickly so I had to scroll through every song on my phone. It turns out I have ZERO songs about sunsets…so I Googled around and found this quote from Edgar Allen Poe:

“Beauty of whatever kind, in its supreme development, invariably excites the sensitive soul to tears.”

5. What are seven reasons why you’re beautiful?
Hoo boy, here we go:

  1. I’m not an awful person
  2. I’m kinda funny and a sense of humor is attractive…right?
  3. My hair is luscious (aka frizzy on bad days)
  4. My body is, at least at first glance, properly proportioned
  5. I am a responsible person
  6. I’m smart. Not like scholarship smart, but like, general knowledge and cognitive skills smart
  7. I know my style and don’t try too hard to be someone I’m not

6. Tell us about a time someone made you feel beautiful. How did it make you feel?
One time, I think in January, my roommate saw me and said “I like your eyeliner,” because I was wearing eyeliner and that was really nice of her because I don’t often wear eyeliner and it took me like ten minutes to get both wings even, so for someone to appreciate it was really nice, and especially because this was around dinner time so I had already had it on all day and it apparently still looked nice.

7. If you had to draw beautiful, how would it look?
My Microsoft Paint skills once again come in handy. This isn’t the best but y’all get the gist.

8. When was the last time you highlighted someone’s beauty to them?
I can’t remember so clearly not recently enough. I shall endeavour to do so more often.

I tag these people (who are under no obligation to do it)

Daley Downing

Rambling Kori

Bizarre Brunette

So there we go! This was a pretty fun tag and I like how it wasn’t all about posting selfies or something.  Thanks again for tagging me, Regina5000, and I hope my tagged people enjoy doing it. And I hope that everyone reading this thinks about beauty and beautiful things a bit more often.

Anyway, that’s all for now, so to close, imagine I’m saying the next sentence in a perfect Christina Aguilera impression. I am beautiful!

Nominated For The Black Cat Blue Sea Award!

What’s this? A blog award about a cat? I’m in!

So I was nominated for this award by the lovely c.l.skellern. I haven’t been nominated for an award in a while and I haven’t been nominated for this one yet, so thank you! This award is apparently for “bloggers who strive to write for everybody and no matter how many viewers they get, make an impact on a reader. This award is an expression of gratitude to the nominee. It should be awarded to anybody that you choose deserves it and it doesn’t mean that they have hundreds of followers and likes.” So, to say the least, I am honored. Because as much as I love followers and likes and comments, I’m really just glad to have readers!

The rules for this award is as follows:

1. Anybody nominated can nominate up to seven other bloggers.

2. Anybody nominated answers the three questions

3. Create another three questions for your nominees.

The three questions I was asked were:

1.  If you could do-over your life again and be good at anything and do anything, what hobby/skill/job would you master?
I’d master the skill of talking to people. I’m an introvert and likely won’t talk unless someone talks to me. I feel like I’ve missed chances to make friends because I’m shy.

2. What is a trait you find so annoying that you would ban it?

3. What is your favourite book, and why?
Hmm, I don’t have one favourite book. I of course love the Harry Potter books, but for the purpose of this question, I’m going to answer with Seraphina by Rachel Hartman. It’s a really great fantasy book about a girl who is a half dragon. I wrote a review of it here, if anyone really wants to know more.

My nominees are as follows:

The Learnify

Just In Queso

M, The Average Girl

light up the shining stars

Jeffrey’s blog

Unfiltered Freckles

And the questions I’m asking are:

1. What’s your favourite meme and why?

2. What was the last thing/person/conversation you really laughed at?

3. What is the strangest thing you like to eat?

Of course, there’s no pressure for any of my noms to participate. I understand if it’s not your thing! Just know that I do enjoy your blog!

Again, thanks to c.l.skellern for my nomination. I had a lot of fun writing this post. I don’t do award posts a lot, but when I do get nominated, I enjoy it because they give me a chance to answer questions that I never really think about and share more of myself with y’all. I like talking about myself!

That’s all for now!

Nominated For The Versatile Blogger Award!

Of all the blogging awards out there, the Versatile one is probably the most fitting one for me. Versatile means the ability to adapt or have many functions, and this blog is a mess of many functions. I have no niche, post basically anything I want, and I’m accepting that. So I was very pleased when blogging pal Anand from Blabberwockying nominated me for this award. It’s nice to know that people find my mess enjoyable.

The rules for this award are as follows:

1. Thank the person who gave you this award. That’s common courtesy.

2. Include a link to their blog. That’s also common courtesy — if you can figure out how to do it.

3.  Next, select 15 blogs/bloggers that you’ve recently discovered or follow regularly.

4. Nominate those 15 bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award

5. Finally, tell the person who nominated you 7 things about yourself.

Seven things about myself…I’m wildly average, but here’s seven things that are hopefully somewhat amusing. It took me a while to think of these, but that’s because I kept getting distracted by TV.

  1. I wanted to be a teacher for the longest time but now I don’t really want to. I don’t know what I really want to do, but I’m pretty sure it’s not teach.
  2. As I type this, I just finished watching the Daredevil movie…it was SO BAD. The TV show is so much better and everyone should go watch it now.
  3. I hate horror movies and TV shows. I don’t do scary. As I tell anyone who suggests horror, “the only horror I want is Rocky Horror.”
  4. Mint is my favourite flavour. Mint ice cream, candy, drinks…I want it all and I love it all.
  5. I’m usually not a huge fan of dialogue in showtunes, so one time I edited it out using Adobe Audition and the skills I learned at school, and the song actually sounds good! It’s a silly fact, but I’m just proud of the fact that I successfully used something I learned in school.
  6. I like onions. Raw. I will literally cut chunks of raw onion to munch on, and I don’t even cry when doing so.
  7. I don’t like the taste of plain water. Or, should I say, I find it too boring. That’s not to say I don’t drink it once in a while, but if I can avoid it, I usually will. I’ll add juice or those water flavour things sometimes.

And now for the nominees. The rules say 15 people who you’ve recently discovered, but I don’t think I’m familiar enough with my recents to nominate them, y’know? And 15 is a lot, so I think I’ll go with like 5 fairly recents….okay? Okay! Check out the awesome blogs of:

Zen and π

By Hook Or By Book

Popcorn In My Purse

All-Nighter Writer

The Nerdy Rebellion

Definitely go read these blogs and maybe give them a follow if you enjoy their posts like I do! And again, thanks so much to Anand for this cool award nomination. 😀

That’s all for now!

The Be Thankful Challenge

Thanksgiving in Canada is long over (and was rather uneventful for me), but I was tagged by Trish at ItsTrish to do the Be Thankful Challenge, and decided to go for it, considering that being thankful is great all year, not just for a day in the fall. So thanks, Trish!

This challenge is simple and the rules are like so:

 1. Share this image in your blog post.
2. Write about 5 people in your life you are thankful for.
3. Write about 5 things in 2015 that you are thankful for.
4. Spread the love and challenge 5 other blogs to take part.

Five People I’m Thankful For:

  1. One of my best friends, who I Snapchat every day (and I know this because Snapchat keeps count for us). Our conversations are silly and for the most part unintelligent, but they’re fun and never stressful and I’m so glad to have this person as a source of drama-free relief in my day to talk about TV shows with. If she’s reading this, I hope she knows she’s eggcelent.
  2. My other best friend who is my go-to for happiness and stories and rants and everything, as we know we’re always there for each other. She’s in her first year of University right now, and seems to be having a way better time than I did, so I’m always thrilled to hear about what she’s up to.
  3. My mom (who’s probably going to text me after reading this with some grossly cutesy message about how she loves me or something) because she’s good to talk to casually, especially since I moved away for school and I don’t see her everyday, so she doesn’t get on my nerves nearly as much anymore.
  4. Stan Lee, the father of Marvel. It’s a weird person to be thankful for, but in the past few years, Marvel has been a big part of my happiness and it’s largely because of what he created.
  5. JK Rowling for not only writing Harry Potter aka the best book series ever, but for continuing on with Potter things. I’m anxiously awaiting a bootleg of the new play (why is London so far away!) and I can’t wait for Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them. Harry Potter will never die! Also, JK Rowling is totally my inspiration. I’ve been slacking on fiction writing for about a year, but I do mean to get back into the swing of things one day…
LOOK! Aren’t you excited!

Five Things I’m Thankful For:

  1. My iPhone, as it’s always with me and playing music and allowing me to connect with my friends and the internet.
  2. The large TV in my apartment that I use and my roommate does not because having a reliable TV connection that I don’t even have to fight for has been amazing.
  3. Pizza, for existing (though I’ve got a nice burn on my arm from trying to get one out of the oven last week and that’s not pleasant!).
  4. WordPress, because I’ve been use it for about half a decade and it’s been a blast and I’ve really found a passion in blogging. Coolbeans4 is my pride and joy right now.
  5. Musicals. I just love them.

Five Blogs I nominate For this Challenge:

A Geek Girl’s Guide

Infinite Daydreamer

Musicals Are Great

Blogs From Geekdom

Flight & Scarlet

And there ya have it! Thank you for reading this post on things/people I am thankful for. It really made me think about things deeper than I normally think, which is a good thing. People (myself included) don’t spend enough time thinking about what they have already and appreciating it, so I enjoyed being forced to. Thanks for the fun challenge, Trish!

That’s all for now!

(P.S. In case you missed it, Coolbeans 4 is now on Facebook, and I’ll be even more thankful for a Like!
