The Real Neat Blog Award

I haven’t done a blog award thing in a while and I’ve actually never been bestowed this one, so since Bizarre Brunette has so kindly passed it on to me, it shall be done!

Real Neat Blog Award.jpg

For those who don’t know, these little blogging awards are just little games passed around blogs. There’s no winner or anything. If nominated people want to, they usually answer the questions/do the thing in a post and nominate more people and ask their own questions.

Here are the questions I have been asked:

1. If you could have dinner with anyone (dead or alive) who would it be?
Honestly, probably Jesus (assuming he’s real). I think it’d be interesting to get the answers to all the things religious people are fighting about these days. Does Jesus really hate gays? Would he be okay with a woman priest? Why doesn’t God talk to us anymore? I think if we had those answers, the world would be a lot better.

2. What’s your favorite podcast you’re listening to right now?
I don’t listen to any podcasts. I prefer listening to music, and honestly, there are so many podcasts these days that I wouldn’t even know where to start if I wanted to get into one.

3. What’s your favorite part about being a geek?
Unabashed love for things. There’s no space for shame. I can geek out about Marvel movies or some TV show or something and it’s okay and even appreciated in fandoms and outside of them too.

4. What’s the latest game you’ve gotten into?
I don’t play video games anymore and no one around me really plays board games, but in the winter at the curling club I learned a dice game called Left Right Centre and it’s really fun and easy. My dad and I made a homemade version, so we play that sometimes when people come over.LRC game

5. What’s your biggest pet peeve?
Not to sound like a stick in the mud, but I have to say bad grammar. Mistakes are mistakes, and I make them too, but it kind of annoys me that there are people who purposely don’t care about the errors they continually make. Like I hate when people do ellipsis with only two dots, or put an exclamation point after a space like this ! And on Facebook or in a text message, it doesn’t matter that much, but in blog posts or in LinkedIn posts where there should be a level of professionalism, it just bothers me a lot. But I know it shouldn’t.

6. What’s a series you hate, but everyone else loves?
Hmmm. I mean, I don’t know if I hate Riverdale. And I know there are a lot of people who also don’t like The Big Bang Theory, so I know I’m not alone there. I guess maybe Seinfeld? It wasn’t a completely terrible show and I like Julia Louis Dryfus, but I didn’t find the show that funny and I have no interest in rewatching any of it, but I know it’s a classic and a favourite for a lot of people. I guess if I hate a show, I wouldn’t have watched it, and if I haven’t watched enough, I wouldn’t say I hated it.

7. What’s your favorite hobby? (besides looking at a screen)
People have hobbies off a computer? Can’t relate. Okay, I’m only partly kidding. My answer is curling. It was really fun last winter, and I’m already registered for more this winter, even though I have no idea what my life is going to look like come October. When I got back into it last year, I didn’t realize how much I needed to get out of the house and just do something else, but I came to really, really enjoy it. Plus, since I curled on Sundays and Wednesdays, it really helped break up my week.

Obviously there is no pressure for the following bloggers to do this, but here’s who I’m nominating:

Georgia’s Favourite ThingsDiversion3000The Confusing MiddleThoughts From JasmineNo Love For Fatties

And the questions I’m asking are:
1. How much money would it take for you to delete your blog on the spot and never start a new one?
2. What is your favourite Pokemon?
3. Who is an actor/actress you hate but for no particular reason?
4. How many email accounts do you have?
5. What’s something from childhood that you miss?
6. What is your favourite musical?
7. Who is your favourite Kardashian (or extended family member) and why?

Thanks again to Bizarre Brunette for passing this to me! I had fun!

The Blue Sky Tag

School’s been hectic lately and my mind isn’t in the right state to handle a normal blog post anyway, so luckily I have this to share instead: fizzlesnoofson has tagged me for the Blue Sky Tag, one I’ve never been tagged for yet, so let’s all just sit back and relax and learn about me, because that’s all we’re getting this week. Thank you for the nomination!

blue sky tag

The rules for this here tag are as follows:

1. Thank the person who tagged you

2. Answer their 11 questions

3. Tag 11 people

4. Give them 11 questions to answer

I like to talk about myself in a casual, non-threatening way like this, so here we go!

1. What do you usually do with your spare time?
Watch TV or scroll the internet. I always have at least one social media tab open at all times! But usually doing that is just filler for the evenings when I can watch TV.

2. If you were an animal, which animal would you be?
A cat for sure. All I want to do is rest and be warm and be with warm people. I’m convinced I was a cat in a past life.

3.  Do you play video games? If so, which one is your favorite?
I don’t really play video games anymore (kind of just fell out of the habit in high school and now I find them too time-consuming) but I still love the idea of them. I don’t know if I have one single favourite game. I loved and still kind of do love Nintendo, so Zelda, Pokémon, Mario, and Kirby were all favourites of mine. I lived for those.

4. If you could meet one character from a book/ movie/ video game, which would it be?
Hmm…that’s a tough one….okay, maybe this is a weak answer, but maybe I’d meet Albus Dumbledore from Harry Potter, just so I can grill him on why he withheld information from Harry and why he ran the school the way he did.

5. What is your favorite holiday?
CHRISTMAS! Hands down. I’m listening to Christmas music as I write this.

6. How do you celebrate your birthday?
I don’t, really. Birthdays are like regular days except there’s cake after dinner. In mid-high school I realized that I didn’t really have enough friends to really throw myself a party, I just kind of stopped caring about how I celebrated.

7. Which element would you want control over: earth, wind, water, or fire?
Water because I could do the most with it. I could put out forest fires, I could bring clean water to Flint, Michigan, I could part oceans for exploration…the possibilities are endless!

magically controlling water

8. Have you ever role-played before?

9. What’s your favorite music genre?
Pop, I guess, but that’s really broad, and honestly I don’t like most mainstream music these days. Basically, I like upbeat fun songs with catchy melodies and good lyrics.

10. Have you ever tried writing a book or comic before?
Yes to both! I’ve mentioned my book writing escapades on my blog before. The current status of it is waiting for beta reader feedback before I do another thorough edit over Christmas in preparation for the bookmaking class next semester. As for writing a comic, in elementary school I dabbled in that a few times. I’ve always liked to draw, though I’m not amazing at it. But I had a few strips that I managed to get in the dinky school newspaper (of which I was basically the editor, so it was hardly a feat).

11. What’s the strangest fact you’ve heard about something?
I’ve heard many strange facts in my life thus far. I have one friend who never ceases to shock me with some strange and nerdy fact every time I see him. But of course I can’t think of a great one right now. One go-to fact I keep in my back pocket is that the average human swallows an average of ten spiders in their lifetime because the spiders crawl into our mouths while we sleep. As a major arachnophobe, this concerns me greatly.

I know I’m supposed to tag 11 people, but I’m really too tired to do that, and usually whenever I do tag people, they rarely do it because these tags have been around for ages and some people don’t like them (which is fair! No judgment here!). So I’m only tagging a few bloggers who of course are under no pressure to do this!

A Whisper Of Ink

By Hook Or By Book

It’s Simply Me, Jasmine

Bizarre Brunette

Little Slice of Bri

And my questions for these great bloggers are:

  1. If you could try to play any sport, what sport would that be?
  2. What’s one TV show you wish you could make everyone watch?
  3. How independent are you?
  4. Who’s your favourite singer? (Or favourite band?)
  5. Who’s your favourite Avenger?
  6. Do you ever buy food at movie theaters?
  7. Who was your favourite teacher and why? (You don’t have to name them if you don’t want to)
  8. If you could immediately learn another language, what would it be?
  9. What’s your favourite alcoholic beverage?
  10. What’s one trend that’s popular these days that you despise? Why?
  11. What’s one bad habit of yours you wish you could kick?

Alrighty, there we go! This tag is complete and I can now throw myself back into schoolwork. If my nominations choose to do this, I look forward to your answers! And thank you so much again to fizzlesnoofson for the tag! You asked great questions!

And for the rest of y’all, if you’re feeling chatty and want to answer any or all of my 11 questions in the form of a comment, feel free!

That’s all for now!

The Birthday Tag

My birthday isn’t actually today, it’s on the 16th, but I’m due for a post so y’all get this early. And I know that for most Tag posts, it’s intended that you’re tagged to do it, but I figured that’s a little unrealistic for this specific one. I also want to note that I didn’t write this post as a way to brag about my birthday or seem like I’m fishing for birthday well-wishes. I simply saw this Tag on Me And My Mundane Life last week and liked the questions and wanted to look them up for myself, and then I figured I’d share all my June 16th facts with you. Because I can. So here we go:

Name celebrities with the same birthday
I seriously didn’t know any that shared the day, so I had to look it up. There are only three people I recognized: Tupac, KJ Apa, and Jon Cho.

Photoshop at its best, eh?

Is your birthday a national holiday?
I knew my birthday is National Fudge Day, which is pretty neat. It’s also Fresh Veggies Day and World Sea Turtles day, apparently. I’m pleased.

Who died on your birthday?
No one exciting. I scrolled through a whole list and didn’t recognize a single name.

What’s your star sign?

What’s your Chinese Zodiac sign?
I’m the year of the Rat but let the record show that I am forever bitter I’m not year of the Dragon.

On which weekday were you born?
I was born on a Sunday and I know that because it was Father’s Day. As the oldest child, my birth was double special for my dad. And yet…I still have to get him a gift every year. No, sir, I am the gift.

What song was on number 1 in the charts when you were born?
This was the number one song…I’ve never heard of it but I listened to it once and….that’s enough.

What was the weather when you were born?
I couldn’t find any information online so I asked my mother and she said, and I quote, “it was nice. On the cooler side, but pleasant. Like, not crazy hot.”

Did anything important ever happen on your birthday?
Again, nothing too thrilling, but in 1903, the Pepsi Cola company formed, and in 1784, Holland forbid the wearing of orange clothes… Please, if anyone reading this knows more about that, tell me because I am very intrigued.

And there we go. A fun little post about June 16th. If you’ve got a birthday coming up, consider yourself tagged to do this too. Or even if you don’t have a birthday anytime soon but want to do it anyway, go for it! This blog is an extension of my life so I guess it makes sense to celebrate my 21st birthday here too.

The ‘Beautiful Is’ Tag

Tag, I’m it! It’s been a while since I’ve been tagged in anything, so I was extra pleased when Regina5000 from Diversion3000 tagged me for The Beautiful Is tag, a tag in which I have to be creative (it’s not a problem, it’s a challenge!) to answer the questions. So read on to learn about what I think such a complex concept like beauty is all about!

Image result for beautiful text

The rules:

1. Link back to the original post in your introduction so nominees can get a brief context of the tag. In particular the opening of this post.

2. Thank your nominee.

3. Answer the questions

4. Tag anyone and let them know – no limit on numbers

5. Tag it as beautifulistag so the creator can read them all!

6. Comment I am beautiful at the end of your post

1. What is your definition of beautiful?
Beautiful is when something or someone makes you stop and stare in awe, and for a brief second while you do so, you’re at peace.

2. What do you find beauty in (abstract or concrete ideas)?
I can find beauty in a lot of things. People, places, things. Nouns in general, y’know? Personally, though, I think concrete/physical things are more beautiful than abstract. In an art sense, I have no interest in abstract, minimalist art, but show me a realistic painting of a mountain or something, and I’d like that a lot more.

3. When you think of beautiful, what are the first four things or words that come to mind?
Sunsets, oceans, people, love.

4. What’s a song, quote, or lyric that you think sums up beauty perfectly?
Yikes, this was hard for me. Nothing came to mind quickly so I had to scroll through every song on my phone. It turns out I have ZERO songs about sunsets…so I Googled around and found this quote from Edgar Allen Poe:

“Beauty of whatever kind, in its supreme development, invariably excites the sensitive soul to tears.”

5. What are seven reasons why you’re beautiful?
Hoo boy, here we go:

  1. I’m not an awful person
  2. I’m kind of funny and a sense of humour is attractive…right?
  3. My hair is luscious (aka frizzy on bad days)
  4. My body is, at least at first glance, properly proportioned
  5. I am a responsible person
  6. I’m smart. Not like scholarship smart, but like, general knowledge and cognitive skills smart
  7. I know my style and don’t try too hard to be someone I’m not

6. Tell us about a time someone made you feel beautiful. How did it make you feel?
One time, I think in January, my roommate saw me and said “I like your eyeliner,” because I was wearing eyeliner and that was really nice of her because I don’t often wear eyeliner and it took me like ten minutes to get both wings even, so for someone to appreciate it was really nice, and especially because this was around dinner time so I had already had it on all day and it apparently still looked nice.

7. If you had to draw beautiful, how would it look?
My Microsoft Paint skills once again come in handy. This isn’t the best but y’all get the gist.

8. When was the last time you highlighted someone’s beauty to them?
I can’t remember so clearly not recently enough. I shall endeavour to do so more often.

I tag these people (who are under no obligation to do it)

Daley Downing

Rambling Kori

Bizarre Brunette

So there we go! This was a pretty fun tag and I like how it wasn’t all about posting selfies or something.  Thanks again for tagging me, Regina5000, and I hope my tagged people enjoy doing it. And I hope that everyone reading this thinks about beauty and beautiful things a bit more often.

Anyway, that’s all for now, so to close, imagine I’m saying the next sentence in a perfect Christina Aguilera impression. I am beautiful!

Nominated For The Black Cat Blue Sea Award!

What’s this? A blog award about a cat? I’m in!

So I was nominated for this award by the lovely c.l.skellern. I haven’t been nominated for an award in a while and I haven’t been nominated for this one yet, so thank you! This award is apparently for “bloggers who strive to write for everybody and no matter how many viewers they get, make an impact on a reader. This award is an expression of gratitude to the nominee. It should be awarded to anybody that you choose deserves it and it doesn’t mean that they have hundreds of followers and likes.” So, to say the least, I am honoured. Because as much as I love followers and likes and comments, I’m really just glad to have readers!

The rules for this award is as follows:

1. Anybody nominated can nominate up to seven other bloggers.

2. Anybody nominated answers the three questions

3. Create another three questions for your nominees.

The three questions I was asked were:

1.  If you could do-over your life again and be good at anything and do anything, what hobby/skill/job would you master?
I’d master the skill of talking to people. I’m an introvert and likely won’t talk unless someone talks to me. I feel like I’ve missed chances to make friends because I’m shy.

2. What is a trait you find so annoying that you would ban it?

3. What is your favourite book, and why?
Hmm, I don’t have one favourite book. I of course love the Harry Potter books, but for the purpose of this question, I’m going to answer with Seraphina by Rachel Hartman. It’s a really great fantasy book about a girl who is a half dragon. I wrote a review of it here, if anyone really wants to know more.

My nominees are as follows:

The Learnify

Just In Queso

M, The Average Girl

light up the shining stars

Jeffrey’s blog

Unfiltered Freckles

And the questions I’m asking are:

1. What’s your favourite meme and why?

2. What was the last thing/person/conversation you really laughed at?

3. What is the strangest thing you like to eat?

Of course, there’s no pressure for any of my noms to participate. I understand if it’s not your thing! Just know that I do enjoy your blog!

Again, thanks to c.l.skellern for my nomination. I had a lot of fun writing this post. I don’t do award posts a lot, but when I do get nominated, I enjoy it because they give me a chance to answer questions that I never really think about and share more of myself with y’all. I like talking about myself!

That’s all for now!
