So I was nominated for this award by the lovely c.l.skellern. I haven’t been nominated for an award in a while and I haven’t been nominated for this one yet, so thank you! This award is apparently for “bloggers who strive to write for everybody and no matter how many viewers they get, make an impact on a reader. This award is an expression of gratitude to the nominee. It should be awarded to anybody that you choose deserves it and it doesn’t mean that they have hundreds of followers and likes.” So, to say the least, I am honored. Because as much as I love followers and likes and comments, I’m really just glad to have readers!
The rules for this award is as follows:
1. Anybody nominated can nominate up to seven other bloggers.
2. Anybody nominated answers the three questions
3. Create another three questions for your nominees.
The three questions I was asked were:
1. If you could do-over your life again and be good at anything and do anything, what hobby/skill/job would you master?
I’d master the skill of talking to people. I’m an introvert and likely won’t talk unless someone talks to me. I feel like I’ve missed chances to make friends because I’m shy.
2. What is a trait you find so annoying that you would ban it?
3. What is your favourite book, and why?
Hmm, I don’t have one favourite book. I of course love the Harry Potter books, but for the purpose of this question, I’m going to answer with Seraphina by Rachel Hartman. It’s a really great fantasy book about a girl who is a half dragon. I wrote a review of it here, if anyone really wants to know more.
2. What was the last thing/person/conversation you really laughed at?
3. What is the strangest thing you like to eat?
Of course, there’s no pressure for any of my noms to participate. I understand if it’s not your thing! Just know that I do enjoy your blog!
Again, thanks to c.l.skellern for my nomination. I had a lot of fun writing this post. I don’t do award posts a lot, but when I do get nominated, I enjoy it because they give me a chance to answer questions that I never really think about and share more of myself with y’all. I like talking about myself!
Of all the blogging awards out there, the Versatile one is probably the most fitting one for me. Versatile means the ability to adapt or have many functions, and this blog is a mess of many functions. I have no niche, post basically anything I want, and I’m accepting that. So I was very pleased when blogging pal Anand from Blabberwockying nominated me for this award. It’s nice to know that people find my mess enjoyable.
The rules for this award are as follows:
1. Thank the person who gave you this award. That’s common courtesy.
2. Include a link to their blog. That’s also common courtesy — if you can figure out how to do it.
3. Next, select 15 blogs/bloggers that you’ve recently discovered or follow regularly.
4. Nominate those 15 bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award
5. Finally, tell the person who nominated you 7 things about yourself.
Seven things about myself…I’m wildly average, but here’s seven things that are hopefully somewhat amusing. It took me a while to think of these, but that’s because I kept getting distracted by TV.
I wanted to be a teacher for the longest time but now I don’t really want to. I don’t know what I really want to do, but I’m pretty sure it’s not teach.
As I type this, I just finished watching the Daredevil movie…it was SO BAD. The TV show is so much better and everyone should go watch it now.
I hate horror movies and TV shows. I don’t do scary. As I tell anyone who suggests horror, “the only horror I want is Rocky Horror.”
Mint is my favourite flavour. Mint ice cream, candy, drinks…I want it all and I love it all.
I’m usually not a huge fan of dialogue in showtunes, so one time I edited it out using Adobe Audition and the skills I learned at school, and the song actually sounds good! It’s a silly fact, but I’m just proud of the fact that I successfully used something I learned in school.
I like onions. Raw. I will literally cut chunks of raw onion to munch on, and I don’t even cry when doing so.
I don’t like the taste of plain water. Or, should I say, I find it too boring. That’s not to say I don’t drink it once in a while, but if I can avoid it, I usually will. I’ll add juice or those water flavour things sometimes.
And now for the nominees. The rules say 15 people who you’ve recently discovered, but I don’t think I’m familiar enough with my recents to nominate them, y’know? And 15 is a lot, so I think I’ll go with like 5 fairly recents….okay? Okay! Check out the awesome blogs of:
Thanksgiving in Canada is long over (and was rather uneventful for me), but I was tagged by Trish at ItsTrish to do the Be Thankful Challenge, and decided to go for it, considering that being thankful is great all year, not just for a day in the fall. So thanks, Trish!
This challenge is simple and the rules are like so:
1. Share this image in your blog post.
2. Write about 5 people in your life you are thankful for.
3. Write about 5 things in 2015 that you are thankful for.
4. Spread the love and challenge 5 other blogs to take part.
Five People I’m Thankful For:
One of my best friends, who I Snapchat every day (and I know this because Snapchat keeps count for us). Our conversations are silly and for the most part unintelligent, but they’re fun and never stressful and I’m so glad to have this person as a source of drama-free relief in my day to talk about TV shows with. If she’s reading this, I hope she knows she’s eggcelent.
My other best friend who is my go-to for happiness and stories and rants and everything, as we know we’re always there for each other. She’s in her first year of University right now, and seems to be having a way better time than I did, so I’m always thrilled to hear about what she’s up to.
My mom (who’s probably going to text me after reading this with some grossly cutesy message about how she loves me or something) because she’s good to talk to casually, especially since I moved away for school and I don’t see her everyday, so she doesn’t get on my nerves nearly as much anymore.
JK Rowling for not only writing Harry Potter aka the best book series ever, but for continuing on with Potter things. I’m anxiously awaiting a bootleg of the new play (why is London so far away!) and I can’t wait for Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them. Harry Potter will never die! Also, JK Rowling is totally my inspiration. I’ve been slacking on fiction writing for about a year, but I do mean to get back into the swing of things one day…
Five Things I’m Thankful For:
My iPhone, as it’s always with me and playing music and allowing me to connect with my friends and the internet.
The large TV in my apartment that I use and my roommate does not because having a reliable TV connection that I don’t even have to fight for has been amazing.
Pizza, for existing (though I’ve got a nice burn on my arm from trying to get one out of the oven last week and that’s not pleasant!).
WordPress, because I’ve been use it for about half a decade and it’s been a blast and I’ve really found a passion in blogging. Coolbeans4 is my pride and joy right now.
And there ya have it! Thank you for reading this post on things/people I am thankful for. It really made me think about things deeper than I normally think, which is a good thing. People (myself included) don’t spend enough time thinking about what they have already and appreciating it, so I enjoyed being forced to. Thanks for the fun challenge, Trish!
That’s all for now!
(P.S. In case you missed it, Coolbeans 4 is now on Facebook, and I’ll be even more thankful for a Like!
What a good way to jump into October! I decide to combine posts for these awards just to save time.
So for the first one: A few weeks ago I was nominated for the One Lovely Blog Award by dumbledoresarmyat221b, which was super neat, so thanks so much! It’s an honour to have one’s blog considered ‘lovely’!
The rules for this award are as follows:
1. You must thank the person who nominated you and include a link to their blog.
2. You must list the rules and display the award
3. You must add 7 facts about yourself
4. You must nominate 15 other bloggers and leave a comment on one of their posts to let them know they have been nominated.
Seven facts about myself, eh? Let’s see….
l love musicals. Lately I find myself clicking shuffle on my phone until a song from a musical comes on because I just love listening to their soundtracks. I have a list of musicals that I want to watch and I’m slowly making my way through it. But it seems that each time I cross one off, more get added… so it’s a struggle but it’s musicals so I love it.
I have a birthmark on my knee that kind of looks like British Columbia.
I get super freaked out by spiders and insects and bugs. Nothing scares me more.
As I type this I am really cold and I want to go get my Snuggie but it’s all the way across the room and I’m really too lazy to get up…that sentence basically describes my personality.
I have a great sense of direction and don’t often get lost. One time, my family went to Italy and we were in Venice and my parents got kind of lost and didn’t know how to get back to the main square so I lead us all back. That being said, this past summer I went for a bike ride with my dad and aunt and we got lost and even I didn’t know where to go. But most of the time, I’m good.
I have this Word document on my laptop called Best Things On The Internet and every time I come across a funny video or Tumblr post, I save it for when I need a laugh. I do intent to share some here on this blog. They’re kind of my back up in case I’m running low on writing inspiration.
The weirdest thing I’m proud to own is this stupid library receipt from like 2012. I’d checked out Dark Fire and took it with me on the aforementioned Italy trip and folded the receipt in half to use as a bookmark during the trip, and then when I went home I for some reason just kept using it. And here we are three whole years later and that stupid receipt is yellowed and tearing and very thin, but it’s been to four countries and I still use it. However, just this past summer I accidentally left it in a book I returned to the library and I freaked out, but luckily my mom went to the library and found the book before the next person checked it out now I’m super careful with this stupid library receipt.
And there we go! Seven thrilling facts. I’ll have you know that thinking up facts interesting enough to include was actually difficult.
Now, the rules say to nominate 15 people, but I’m going to cut that down a bit and just nominate:
And now for the Blogger Recognition Award, which I was so nicely nominated for by SabahBatul. 🙂
This wonderful award’s rules are:
1. You must thank the person who nominated you and include a link to their blog.
2. You must list the rules and display the award
3. Write a bit about how your blog got started.
4. Give some advice to new bloggers
5. You must nominate 15 other bloggers and leave a comment on one of their posts to let them know they have been nominated.
How did I start blogging? As I mentioned here, I had a previous very topical blog for four years that I decided to end, but I enjoyed blogging and the blogosphere so much, I knew I needed to keep going somehow. So here I am, with a half topical, half personal blog that’s about anything and everything with a lot of pop culture (I’m still working out how to describe my blog!).
I have plenty of advice for new bloggers! I love helping new people! My first tip is to take WordPress’ Blogging University courses. They are so helpful and fun and really great for people new to WordPress. I wish I could go back to when I first started WordPress and take Blogging 101 because it would have saved me a lot of time as I had to teach myself everything! Another tip is to familiarize yourself with the settings. Systematically go through every tab and option and even if you don’t need them, just know where they are and what they do. Play around and learn! And my last tip is a very common one, which is to interact. Chances are, if you’re new to blogging, you’ll have to put in a lot of work to get a good following. You can’t just sit there and wonder why you’re not getting comments and views, you gotta get out there and create traffic, and that’s done by interacting with other blogs. Go through that Reader and comment and like other people’s posts and chances are, they’ll go see who you are.
Again, I’m going to cut back on my nominations and only nominate:
Did you think the post was over? Nah. I was actually also nominated again for the Sunshine Blogger Award by Amanpan and since I already did this award recently, I didn’t want to do it fully again, but I did kind of want to answer the cool questions required. I figured it’d at least be a way for you readers to learn some more little things about me, since you’re already here reading this. So here we go:
1. Are you an Introvert or an Extrovert?
2. Are you proud of the person you are, or are you still a work in progress?
I’d say more proud, but, like…nobody’s perfect.
3. What would be the one thing you would do different, If you went back to high school?
I’d know how high school friendships work so I’d be able to avoid certain people and get closer to others.
4. If you had three wishes, what would you wish for?
Money, more close friends, and the ability to time travel.
5. Your best memory of your childhood vacations?
Going to my grandparents’ cottage every summer. It was always such a fun, happy place to be, even when it would heavily rain for days.
6. Your happy place would be?
In a comfy chair, watching my favourite TV shows, maybe with a few of my friends there too so we can all enjoy the shows together.
7. Your dream job would be?
I dunno, I don’t have a dream job. I’d love to work in the TV industry.
8. The top thing on your bucket list?
Write and publish a book.
9. What would you want written on your tombstone?
“I hope there’s wifi in heaven.”
10. Your favorite Disney princess?
I was never into Disney as a child, but I did love Frozen, so Anna and Elsa are my favourites.
11. Reading a book or Watching a movie….On a lazy Sunday evening?
If I had a really good book to read, then I’d say that, but in general, though I don’t have a Sunday habit, I’ll say movie.
Okay, now I am done this post. Thanks again to dumbledoresarmyat221b for the One Lovely Blog award nomination and thanks to SabahBatul for the Blogger Recognition Award nomination and thanks to Amanpan for the second Sunshine nom! Yay for awards and blogging love!
AKA the award that I’m probably not pronouncing properly.
A few weeks ago, I was nominated for the Liebster Award by Irvin Shandy, which is super cool. I am honored, so thank you! This award is especially neat because it’s for people who have less than 200 followers. 200 followers is a lot, don’t get me wrong, but I love the idea of limiting this so newer bloggers get some spotlight too.
The rules for this award goes as follows:
1. Once you are nominated, make a post thanking and linking the person who nominated you.
2. Include the Liebster Award sticker in the post too.
3. Nominate 5 -10 other bloggers who you feel are worthy of this award. Let them know they have been nominated by commenting on one of their posts. You can also nominate the person who nominated you.
4. Ensure all of these bloggers have less than 200 followers.
5. Answer the eleven questions asked to you by the person who nominated you, and make eleven questions of your own for your nominees or you may use the same questions.
6. Lastly, COPY these rules in the post.
This award requires the answering of questions, which I think is really fun. The 11 questions I have been asked are:
1. If you could travel anywhere tomorrow, where would it be?
London, England is my answer. It seems like such a pretty fun place. And, of course, I really want to see the Harry Potter Studios Tour.
2. What is the simplest thing that makes you smile?
Cats. I love cats. Show me them kitties and I will smile like…Cheshire Cat, ironically.
3. What do you like about your hometown?
It’s a pretty safe, upperclass place. I say this because a neighbouring town has a reputation for being the opposite. Anyways, yeah, my hometown, though small, is alright.
4. What is the best meal you can prepare?
Ummm I can’t cook, but Costco sells these frozen pizza shells with sauce and I put cheese on and can make those in the oven well. I am also good at canned soup, but I don’t know if that counts as a meal…
5. What’s your favorite chore to do at home?
Unloading the dishwasher. It’s not gross and sometimes the dishes are warm and I can do the job while still listening to music.
6. What’s your favorite book?
I can’t say I have one single favourite book…
7. What’s the very first thing you would do if you won the lottery?
School. It’d set aside a chunk of it to make sure I am fully covered for all the rest of my schooling. Aren’t I a fun person?
8. What’s your favorite fruit or vegetable?
Fruit: raspberry. Vegetable: peas, fresh out of the pod.
9. How many times have you fallen in love?
Well, how many TV shows do I watch?
10. What was your favorite game or toy as a child?
I loved Checkers and Pokémon and Tamagotchies
